What is a (pattern) repeat?
A repeat is the smallest recurring unit of a pattern that can continue seamlessly and indefinitely. In the textile industry, fabric design and surface design, the repeat forms the basis of an even, continuous pattern without visible transitions. Repeats are used in clothing, farbrics, home textiles, wallpaper, gift wrap and other printed or designed surfaces.
What is the difference between a vector graphic and a raster graphic?
A vector graphic is digital image made up of mathematically defined shapes such as lines, curves, circles and polygons. Unlike a raster graphic, it is not composed of pixels. The main advantage of a vector graphic is that it can be scaled up or down to any size without losing quality. This makes it especially suitable for logos, illustrations, icons, pattern designs and other scalable design elements. Depending on the image and its complexity, a vector graphic may require less storage space than a raster graphic. A well-known vector file format is SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics), which is also widely used in pattern design.
A raster graphic (also called a bitmap image) is an image made up of many individual pixels. Each pixel has a specific color and together pixels form the complete image. The main advantage of a raster graphic is its ability to display highly detailed and realistic images. For this reason, raster graphics are the preferred choice for photographs.
What does scalable mean?
Scaleable means that a graphic or visual element can be enlarged or reduced in size. In image processing and graphic design, this means that a file can be adapted to different dimensions. Vector graphics in particular are scalable because they are made up of mathematically defined lines, curves and shapes. As a result, they can be enlarged or reduced without any loss of quality, while remaining sharp and precise. A typical example of a scalable graphic format is SVG.
What is the difference between an .svg file and a .psd file?
An SVG file is a vector graphic, while a PSD file is usually an editable Adobe Photoshop file that often contains raster-based, pixel graphics.
An SVG file can be resized without any loss of quality and is usually easy to recolor, edit or break down into individual design elements. This makes SVG especially useful for pattern designs, logos, icons and illustrations.
A PSD file, by contrast, is mainly used for image editing, photo retouching and layout work in Photoshop. It can contain layers, masks, effects and pixel-based image data. While a PSD file can also be edited, it is generally less flexible than SVG when it comes to scaling, recoloring and reusing individual design elements - especially in the case of pattern designs, logos and illustrations.
All ornaments/elements in a vector graphic can be extracted by a single mouse click and used as proper ornament/element or inserted in another vector graphic.

How big is a Vector Design regarding the file size?
The file size of a vector design is approximately 1.5 MB on average, although it can vary depending on the complexity and level of detail of the pattern design. Factors that influence the file size include the number of shapes, colors and other design elements used in the artwork.
Despite their flexibility, vector graphics are often relatively storage-efficient and are expecially well suited for scalable designs such as patterns, logos and illustrations.

With keyword search, simply enter relevant keywords - such as floral - into the search box. You can then refine the results using filters, for example by the number of colors or other design features.
With gallery search, you can browse pattern designs directly from the landing page. In the top navigation, designs are organized into categories and themes - for example, Animals followed by Pets.
Whether you are looking for a specific motif or simply exploring seamless patterns and repeat vector designs for inspiration, both search options make it easy to find the perfect design.
Can I also buy products featuring Pattern Design designs?
At Pattern Design, you can purchase the design files only. Finished products are not sold directly through Pattern Design.
However, you can visit

What can I use the vector designs for?

Sure, the colors of a vector design can be recolored before purchasing. With the application images you can already be inspired such as a recolored design looks like on e.g. a bedding or pillow.
How can I change the color of a vector design?
Yes. You can recolor the colors of a pattern design before purchasing it. You can also preview the recolored design in the application images to see how it might look on products such as bedding, cushions and other items, helping you visualize the final result before you buy.

How can I find the Pantone color number for a purchased design?
You can find the corresponding Pantone color by using the
the Pantone Color Finder. Enter the HEX code, the RGB values or the CMYK values and it will show you the closest matching Pantone color. You can find the HEX, RGB and CMYK values for your design in the recoloring tool on the pattern detail page.
